課程概述 |
課程編號:122 M5620 莎士比亞跨文化研究專題
This course studies Shakespeare in culture and in intercultural milieu. Some background of Shakespeare is required. In addition to Shakespearean texts, we will read modern and contemporary theory and criticism and watch performance videos, and analyze cross-cultural productions and adaptations on stage and screen. This course also provides training in digital humanities: by signing up for this course, you agree to contribute to the Taiwan Shakespeare Database and the World Shakespeare Bibliography Online.
|
課程目標 |
OBJECTIVES:
This is not a “straight” Shakespeare course where the Bard’s authority is taken for granted. Instead, we hope to transcend the ideological binarisms of source vs. derivative, authentic vs. imitation, and master vs. subordinate. Focusing on the actual practice and politics of translating Shakespeare in theatre beyond linguistic levels, this course asks not only how Shakespeare metamorphoses but also why.
